MALAGA COMMERCE COLLECTIVE

Clear purpose. Responsible leadership.

Good governance keeps the Collective focused on its objects and on the community it exists to serve.

A shared point of reference

The constitution gives the association its framework and purpose. Its objects connect representation, economic development, safety, innovation and member relationships, providing a basis for considering where the Collective should direct its attention.

Keeping that purpose visible helps distinguish a common precinct priority from an individual commercial interest.

Resources in service of our objects

The constitutional provisions state that the association’s property and income are to be applied towards its objects. They restrict distributions for members’ private benefit while recognising good-faith payments made in furtherance of the association’s purpose.

This principle supports a Collective whose resources serve its work for the business community.

Representation with independence

Our objects call for non-political and non-sectarian representation. That means engaging constructively across different perspectives while keeping business-related issues and the interests of the precinct central.

Connecting local experience with wider planning

The association’s purpose includes alignment with the City of Swan’s strategic community and local area planning objectives, and constructive engagement as those processes are reviewed. Local business experience is a valuable contribution to those wider conversations.

Participation and transparency

An informed business community is better able to contribute. Clear explanations of our purpose, priorities and activities help members understand the direction of the Collective. Formal governance procedures are set by the constitution; this website explains the purpose behind them rather than creating additional rules.
